Seated Cat-Cow Pose For Travel

Independence Day is rapidly approaching and we all know what means: Travel.

Whether you are headed to The Hamptons or down to your local beach, we at CARAVAN want to make sure that you’re fully equipped with effective, science-backed tools to aid your restless traveling days.

In our class “Airplane/Car Release,” CARAVAN teacher Liz explores stretches and poses that are easy to do when seated for long travel durations, such as the Cat-Cow pose.

The Cat-Cow is a flow that goes between two poses: The “cat” pose, creating an arched back, and the “cow,” creating a sunken one.

Let us give you a brief run-down of how it’s done:

“Bring your hands right along the side of your seat,” said Liz. “Let’s do some ‘cats and cows.’”

The Cat-Cow For When You’re Seated

  1. Lift the chest and stick your bum out
  2. Exhale, round the spine
  3. Hang your head, inhale
  4. Come into a back-bend, lift the chest
  5. Exhale, round the spine
  6. Repeat :)
  7. Breathing in, lift the chest
  8. Breathing out, round the back

This Cat-Cow pose is great for stretching and has been identified as a tool that can provide, “favorable effects on cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility,” by a 2015 12-week clinical yoga trial
